Communication Technology Resources (CTR) provides evaluation and consultation services to children who can benefit from the use of augmentative and alternative communication systems (AAC). Staff trainings are also provided on a range of AAC implementation topics.
Who Can Request An Evaluation
School Districts and other agencies may contract with CTR to provide AAC evaluations and training. Medical insurance is not accepted. All AAC evaluations are conducted at the student’s school. CTR serves students within Monmouth County, an in parts of Ocean and Middlesex Counties.
How to Schedule Services
Prior to scheduling an evaluation the school district must complete the Pediatric Intake Form and the AAC Evaluation Agreement and forward them to JoanBruno@CTR-NJ.com. Upon receipt of all required paperwork, the designated contact person will be offered a date and time for the evaluation.

What Happens During An Evaluation
- • A Speech Therapist or teacher is required to participate in the evaluation.
- • The AAC evaluation is completed within a 2-hour time frame.
- • The evaluation includes an assessment of the student’s symbolic and language abilities.
- • A range of AAC low and high-tech systems are considered as possible options.
- • Initial recommendations are discussed with the team’s input to ensure the most appropriate system recommendation.
What Happens After the Evaluation
- • A report is prepared documenting evaluation findings and detailing AAC device/App recommendations and goals.
- • The School District will typically receive the completed report within 2 weeks following the evaluation.
